I need this to be able to quickly and precisely cut straight linesThe only complaint is that when tearing paper off it makes a fairly clean cut up until the last 8 or so inches. Maybe I’m not cocking my head enough when I pull the paper. Better than using a knife like I was using.What is referenced as a "cutter" is a square 90-degree edge that is unsharpened. Unless you are very slow and careful, the act of pulling the paper to cut it leads to the holder itself giving way and toppling over since there is not a lot of weight to it. I imagine the heavier the paper roll the more sturdy it will be but with a 175 sq. ft. roll of butcher paper it was just too light and unable to pull hard enough for the paper to cut. The paper would not cut with a nice clean edge without the extra effort, so overall this was not a good product for me.I have a Macaw. It is easier to cut cage tray liner and protect carpet under cage. Easy to cut the needed sizes.This is a very poor quality piece of equipment. Don't be fooled, as I was, of the "MADE IN USA" sticker. I believed that inferred a quality product but that is not true in this case. The components are made of incredibly thin metal, so much so that if you don't pull the paper cutter away with 2 hands in unison it will twist & jam. It arrived with both black end upright pieces totally bent out of shape and the cutter not installed. I was worried about cutting myself during assembly, not on the blade because there is no blade, but because of the thin metal and with things being spring loaded. The lack of a blade means the paper has a torn look. Really unimpressed and curious where all the 5* reviews have come from.Works as expected. We’ll built item.This arrived quickly, otherwise I would have rated it lower. When it arrive and I unpacked it, there were scratches and dings all over it. Like it was previously used.Hoped this was going to be strudier than it is. But the main issue is there is no paper cutter or serrated area to help cut the paper. It is only a thin bar you must hold and rip from left to right or you will rip through your paper, in my experience. Why it didn't come with a sharp or serrated paper cutter is beyond me. My advice, find one that has a dedicated paper cutter to help with a cleaner more efficient cut.I only use it a couple times a month so your mileage may vary.
